HOW TO USE FDM S1/S2 RECEIVERS AND REGULAR TRANSCEIVERS SIMULTANEOUSLY

CONFIGURING FDM-SW2 in the right way,

it is possible to work with ELAD receivers connected with a regular transceiver at the same time. To do so, it is necessary to install OMNIRIG program in the same PC in which SW2 has been installed.

OMNIRIG CONFIGURATION

On the top-left corner of FDM-SW2 screen there is an icon with Omnirig. If you click on this button, it will appear a configuration window.

Only left device should be configured. If you click on the “show dialog" slot on the left, the Omnirig window configuration will appear.

In this window there are three important information that the software needs to know.

  • RIG TIPE: is the transceiver that you are going to use.
  • PORT: should match with the port in which CAT is received.
  • BAUD RATE: it has to match with the transceiver one.

THERE ARE MAINLY THREE WAYS TO CONNECT AN ELAD S1/S2 TO A REGULAR TRANSCEIVER.

The optimal choice for the hardware set up is based on what the transceiver’s connection offers. Here below are the different options:

  • Auxiliary connected receiver

if you have a transceiver with RX OUT output. This is the most flexible configuration, since it allows to use simultaneously both the transceiver’s internal receiver and the ELAD device.

•  Panadapter

if you have a transceiver with IF OUT output. This configuration also allows to simultaneously use both the transceiver’s internal receiver and the ELAD device. The major limitation of this configuration is that both receivers must operate on the same band; it is not possible, for instance, to listen to a band while operating the tranceiver on a different one.

• Auxiliary switched receiver

if you have a transceiver with no RX OUT or IF OUT output. In this case you have to use an external switch such as, for example, the model ELAD ASW-1. This is the most penalized configuration because it does not allow you to use the transceiver’s internal receiver.

SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION

On the bottom-left corner there is the “SET" button. If you click on it, it will appear the configuration window of the program.

Click on “REMOTE CTRL" and verify that Omnirig is enabled.

If you are going to use the Panadapter Mode, click on “ADVANCED" and “ENABLE PANADAPTER" and set the exact IF frequency value for each mode. Please consider to choose the right frequency value, as each transceiver’s manufacturer is slightly different. In some transceivers the frequencies change in order of their modulation. For
example, in some devices, the receiving path of the FM modulation is
different from the AM/SSB configuration. Also pay close attention to the BFO values that on CW mode that is closely related to IF.

Please pay attention to the configuration of the different frequencies. In some device frequencies change in order of their modulation: for example, in some devices, the receiving chain of the FM modulation is different from the AM/SSB configuration that needs different values. In many devices , some values must be configured in order to respect BFO configuration for CW and SSB.

After that you have to confirm by clicking on the “OK" button.
